Interior design scheme for a new office building in the BaoAn district of Shenzhen

Chetwoods United Studio collaborated with CCSD on a concept proposal for the interior design of a new office building in the Bao’An district of Shenzhen, China. The design aimed to reflect Bao'An’s status as an international coastal district with a global outlook and a forward-thinking vision for the future.

The design scope encompassed three levels, connected by two expansive atria linking the 31st and 32nd floors. Key spaces included the Bao’An Exhibition Hall, a multi-function room, meeting areas, VIP lounges, a coffee bar, a dining area, and office spaces. The 33rd floor featured a rooftop garden complemented by a viewing platform above it. The brief was to create flexible, innovation-driven spaces that would provide a world-class exhibition venue fostering productivity and dynamic interaction.

The concept development process showcased the value of diverse design tools, from traditional hand sketching to advanced CGI technology.
The two atria embodied Bao’An’s ecological sustainability, with one inspired by celestial themes and the other focusing on sensory gardens. Both incorporated the key environmental elements of sun, wind, and rain, symbolising a harmonious relationship between nature and urban design. These elements were virtually extended to the roof, envisioned as an international ecological environment designed to enhance biodiversity within the project.

The design strategy for the top level prioritised creating an eco-friendly and comfortable aerial activity platform with flexible potential uses. Highlights included tea rooms set amid a diverse collection of plants, offering spaces for relaxation and social interaction while creating a lush, green environment. The viewing platform’s floor pattern featured an abstract map of the surrounding planning area, providing a distinctive aerial feature that helped visitors intuitively understand regional planning.

The exhibition space was designed for maximum adaptability, with removable display walls that could accommodate varying exhibitor numbers, curatorial needs, and styles. This flexibility allowed for different layouts, ensuring the space could host a variety of exhibitions as well as public events such as conferences and forums.
This project exemplified CCSD and United Studio teams’ dedication to transforming spaces into meaningful experiences through imaginative overarching concepts and meticulous attention to detail.
