The BioPark was a concept introduced to the West of Ireland by BioPharMed West Ltd and Imperative Energy Ltd. to provide renewable, green energy on the site for a variety of industrial and commercial uses, with the co-location of the CHP plant and the Biomedical facility enabling maximum energy potential to be extracted from locally produced woodchip from sustainably managed forests in a way that is economically and environmentally efficient.

The CHP plant would generate renewable, clean energy in the form of electricity and steam for use on-site in the sterilization process, and for drying in the wood pellet manufacturing facility. Hot water would provide the opportunity to roll out district heating in the local town.
