Our innovative wind amelioration scheme at Bridgewater Place in Leeds has been shortlisted for this year’s Structural Steel Design Award. To solve the problem of wind turbulence around Yorkshire’s tallest building we developed a world-first design solution that is now being used as a test bed for future high-rise developments.

Our design to manage severe wind turbulence around the 367 ft/112m tall building combined architecture with structural and wind engineering to develop wind baffles across Water Lane, and a series of vertical screens and canopies around the building.

The initial wind testing was done in the USA where a full-size scale model was constructed, with extensive on-site testing post completion to ensure that this world-first design solution met the required standards.
