Works

Works champions the digital delivery of projects.  It provides support to our teams in the use of appropriate and innovative software and hardware to deliver sustainable architecture with a measurable, positive impact on human well-being and the environment.

We adopt best in class digital tools and technologies to optimise data-driven decision making and certainty of delivery.

We increase the efficiency of the processes of designing and communicating our projects, while simultaneously reducing costs to provide the best results for our clients and the future occupants of their buildings.

At the heart of Works there are three core Design Drivers which allow a more structured way of looking at digitalisation beyond BIM. They ensure that digitalisation and data centricity are an integral part of any project we work on from concept to completion.

1. Data Centricity

Data Centricity means that data is at the heart of our design decision making. We can understand and manage design data better using BIM, generative design tools and project information.

Design excellence can be enhanced by data-driven insights that use geometric and semantic data to analyse a design. We can create simulations to predict and test performance throughout a building’s life cycle.

We use analytics tools for insights into solar and lighting, life-cycle performance, materials carbon emissions, design clash detection and coordination.

Data-centric tools:

Ensure data from building designs apply throughout the building life cycle

Provide building information and data which can continue to be used for performance insights and better building management after handover

Ensure building information is passed down in vendor neutral format that can be used for years to come after project completion

2. Emerging Technologies

We use a range of emerging technologies in our work:

Immersive Technologies: Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) can help understand in a virtual environment what a design will look and feel like when built. Use of project BIM data can quickly create a visualisation of a space to be reviewed on any device anywhere in the world

Digital Twin of Design: The Digital Twin concept originates from product life cycle management. As architects we create a 3D representation (or Digital Twin/avatar) of a building. This has continued long term value and use by owners and occupants. In use it can become an essential tool for minimising carbon emissions, mitigating new health and safety risks, and preventative building maintenance.

Generative Design: Generally referred to when discussing iterative design progression that proposes options to resolving a design issue. In architecture, Generative Design is best harnessed during early concept and design-optioneering stages. We ensure that we stay attuned to the latest techniques in Generative Design as applied to architectural design, for example convolutional neural networks and deep neural nets.

Computer Vision: Used to measure psychophysical and physical metrics to gauge states of occupant emotion and thriving. If paired with sensory analysis of occupant wellbeing, Computer Vision offers a deeper understanding of changes to the working environment that will enhance productivity and emotional wellbeing.

3. Project Intelligence

Project Intelligence means taking BIM to the next level with business intelligence. We pair our project data and design data into a uniform format which can be used to analyse discrepancies and anticipated delays.

Project Intelligence offers:

Visualisation of tasks and timelines

Strong integration capabilities

Enhanced project transparency
